Patches Classes Fall 2021

Our Class Registration Policy

Register by either phone or in person. WE DO NOT ACCEPT EMAIL REGISTRATIONS FOR CLASSES!!

To register for a class, you must prepay the class fee at which time you will be given a supply list for things needed to participate in the class. The class fee is for instruction only. No materials are included in the class fee. The fee is refundable if you let us know one week prior to the beginning of the class or if the class is canceled for lack of participation. If you do not let us know one week prior to the class starting, the fee is not refundable.

Charming Sampler

(B+) Have Charm packs you want to use? Learn 4 fast and fun blocks using 5" squares to make 3" blocks. Techniques taught include freezer paper piecing, speed piecing flying geese, nine patches so fast, and X Blocks--stack and shuffle. All techniques can be used for larger blocks too. Learn lots of tips that improve all your quiltmaking. $5.00 Handout fee required, payable to Barbara in class.

(B) Sashiko is a form of Japanese embroidery using a variation of a running stitch to create a patterned background. It is easy to learn and makes stunning textile pieces. In this class you will learn the basic technique as well as recommendations for materials and fibers to get the best results.

Fall Wool Bowl Fillers

(B) These beautiful autumn bowl fillers are a 3 sided shape made of felted wool fabric with fun fall motifs using wool applique and surface embroidery. The pattern includes detailed drawings and instructions for completion of 3 bowl fillers. These can be used in fall arrangements, in a decorative bowl or as hanging ornaments. Kits are available with hand dyed wool fabrics cut to size for you to trace and cut out each shape needed and a 3mm black bead. A thread kit of perle cotton is available separately but you are welcome to use any colors you like.

(B+ This is a fun Christmas wall hanging quilt that has Santa’s Village Houses. You will be using a cotton background with wool applique houses. This quilt project combines machine sewing and hand techniques. The houses, trees, and animals will be embellished with trims, and hand embroidery stitches. You will learn how to cut and stitch wool appliques onto a cotton background. You will also learn some basic embroidery stitches and how to use trims and beads to enhance your work. Hand Embroidery 101

(B Have you ever wanted to learn the basics of hand embroidery? If so this class is for you. You will learn how to hand embroidery on a cute laser cut wool kit by Sue Spargo (the kits are available from Patches and Stitches). The kit includes a simple design and the pieces are already laser cut for your convenience. The class sample shows the House and the Bird kits the but you can select a different kit if you prefer. You will learn how to sew the wool pieces onto the background and once the wool is stitched down you will learn the basic hand embroidery stitches required to embellish this kit. The class sample shows the house and bird sewn onto a Yazzii bag but you can also make a needle book or frame the piece, quilt it, or use it in any other way that you want.
