Patches Classes Fall 2019

Our Class Registration Policy

Register by either phone or in person. WE DO NOT ACCEPT EMAIL REGISTRATIONS FOR CLASSES!!

To register for a class, you must prepay the class fee at which time you will be given a supply list for things needed to participate in the class. The class fee is for instruction only. No materials are included in the class fee. The fee is refundable if you let us know one week prior to the beginning of the class or if the class is canceled for lack of participation. If you do not let us know one week prior to the class starting, the fee is not refundable.

1 pm -- 5pm

(B+) This wool table mat will add a spooky touch to your Halloween table. It features traditional Halloween motifs with some added embellishments. You can be a creative as you like with it. We will learn basic wool appliqué using a fusible method. We will also discuss embellishment options and go over the added embroidery stitches and techniques. Mat finishes approximately 24".

Halloween Table Mat

(B+) This is a quick little quilt (it'll finish at about 24" square), made from scraps you have around your sewing room. It starts with some easy sewing, has a frantic bit of nervy cutting, and then you'll play improvisationally with your blocks until you find a design that you like! If you have never tried an improvisational quilt and want to dip your toes into the pool, this is a fun introductory piece.

(B+) Are you scared of hexagon quilts because of possible y-seams? Then this could be for you because there are no y-seams. You will learn how to stack and cut your fabric to get the kaleidoscope effect you want. The first class will focus on cutting your fabric and beginning to put your hexagons together. The second class will be spent seeing the “magic” happen with the design.

Quilting 101 -- Session I

(B) This class will be so much fun! This is a small wool applique quilt called a Clipboard Quilt because it can be displayed on a beautiful decoupaged clipboard. We are using Lori Smith’s Pattern #16. It finishes approximately 8 ½” x 11”. You will learn basic wool applique stitches, method of fusing the wool and embellishment stitches. Various threads, charms and other embellishments can be used to make this uniquely yours.

(B+) Come enjoy a fun few hours of easy sewing and take home the first edition of a brand new pattern! Due to popular demand, Elaine is putting together the instructions for her 100% Positive quilt, named because of the hundred plus symbols in the 48"x60" quilt. The written pattern will include instructions for strip-piecing as well as piecing the quilt in a scrappy format, as well as a pressing plan so your seams will nest. The pattern will also include supply information for additional sizes, should you decide you want to make a bigger or smaller quilt in this design.

(B+) This is a fun Christmas wall hanging quilt that has Santa’s Village Houses. You will be using a cotton background with wool applique houses. This quilt project combines sewing and hand techniques. The houses, trees, and animals will be embellished with trims, and hand embroidery stitches. You will learn how to cut and stitch wool appliques onto a cotton background. You will also learn some basic embroidery stitches and how to use trims and beads to enhance your work. This class will consist of 3 separate sessions of three hours each.
