Patches and Stitches Class for Summer 2019

Friday June 28

(B) This class will be so much fun! This is a small wool applique quilt called a Clipboard Quilt because it can be displayed on a beautiful decoupaged clipboard. We are using Lori Smith’s Pattern #16. It finishes approximately 8 ½” x 11”. You will learn basic wool applique stitches, method of fusing the wool and embellishment stitches. Various threads, charms and other embellishments can be used to make this uniquely yours.

(B+) If you’ve been wanting to try your hand at designing your own quilt projects but have always been afraid to jump in, this class will help you find a comfortable place to start. We will use simple quilt block structures and play with various arrangements that utilize color, value, and tension to create the desired impact. Instructor will provide mini-design walls for use during class to assist with design ideas. We will discuss ways to dive deeper into improvisational work, as well has how to correct small flaws in piecing without having to start over. You will go home with enough components for a small art piece, or the seedlings for a larger project.

(B+) In this workshop twelve wool felt ornaments will be made using Larissa Holland’s 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS patterns. Participants will learn the basics of wool applique and how to use embroidery and texture to bring the ornaments to life. The workshop sessions will be led by including: Audra Kennedy, Lisa Marshall, and Judy Balance, with guest appearances by some of the best Woolies around. There will also be a class kit fee of $25. This kit will be provided at the first session and will include: preprinted templates, notions and tools specific to the construction of the ornaments, Other trinkets/doodads to embellish and personalize your 12 Days ornament Collection will be available during each session.

(B+) If you want to try your hand at piecing without a plan but would welcome a tour guide through the process, then this is the class for you! We will try straight piecing, curved piecing, a combination of the two, and learn how to manage construction challenges as we work. The evening will start with each student working through a simple sketch process, and then each will begin constructing a small improvisational piece based on (or inspired by) that sketch. Graph paper and plain paper will be provided for the sketch process, depending on your preference. You can be as realistic or as abstract as you wish in your sketch, measure as much or as little as you’d like, or just go with your creative flow and see what happens.

Register by either phone or in person. WE DO NOT ACCEPT EMAIL REGISTRATIONS FOR CLASSES!!

To register for a class, you must prepay the class fee at which time you will be given a supply list for things needed to participate in the class. The class fee is for instruction only. No materials are included in the class fee. The fee is refundable if you let us know one week prior to the beginning of the class or if the class is canceled for lack of participation. If you do not let us know one week prior to the class starting, the fee is not refundable.
